Why, you might ask, are you blogging when you could be walking around one of the Smithsonians (if the government didn’t shut down last night)? It’s because yesterday I rushed around trying to see too much and got too tired. I’m officiating (yes and that’s another topic) at a wedding this evening and want to be totally present for that and not tired and achey. But being here makes me very aware of all of the big and small stories of this city. One question I have is how can our nation’s Capitol have so much poverty? Power and poverty seem to be the markers here. Something for me to ponder.

So today I hold up the couple who are marrying and our country’s purpose and that it can be led in this city. And let’s all do our small part by being kind to each other. Because that’s what makes marriages and governments work.
