Another Savannah trek

Palmetto tree in Savannah

How many times in my life have I driven to Savannah and/or Effingham County?  Well over a hundred.  Maybe two hundred.  And here I am again, surrounded by live oak trees and Spanish moss, palmetto trees, and air so full of humidity that if it were a towel you could wring out water with the least little twist.

Arriving in the evening draws me out, even if just for a few minutes, to see the magic light.  On Colonial and Victorian buildings, filtering through the Spanish moss, slanting toward warm streets and sidewalks.

Even if this part of the world weren’t home, I think I’d want to come visit regularly anyhow.  It seems another time and place here somehow.  Especially in the evenings.  And on rainy days.  If you’ve been here, you’ll know what I mean.  And if you haven’t, you should visit and see how the low country affects you.
